Dr. Jerry Klein Bio

Dr. Jerry Klein is an emergency and critical care veterinarian who has been a valued member of the Chicago veterinary community for over 35 years. An Ohio native, Dr. Klein is alum of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Zoology  in 1975. Immediately following the completion of his undergraduate studies Dr. Klein attended Ohio State University and received a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1979.

Following veterinary school, Dr. Klein relocated to Rockford, Illinois, where he spent his first year in small animal veterinary medicine working in private practice. In 1980, Dr. Klein moved to the Chicago area and joined the Chicago Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Center (CVESC) team as an emergency veterinarian.Since first becoming a part of the CVESC team nearly 35 years ago, Dr. Klein has become a mainstay within the hospital, holding several positions throughout his tenure before reaching hid current position as the emergency department's Supervising Veterinarian, where he oversees a team of over 100 staff members in treating thousands of Chicago area pets each year.

In addition to his work as a veterinarian, Dr. Klein is a well-known member of the dog show community, where he actively breeds and shows Afghan Hounds. Several of Dr. Klein's Afghan Hounds have become American Kennel Club Champions and won multiple best-in-show titles. In addition to participation in dog shows, Dr. Klein is a licensed judge for the American Kennel Club and has acted as a judge for shows on both a national and international level. recently, Dr. Klein was selected to act as a judge in the prestigious 2015 Westminster Kennel Club dog show.

Dr. Klein is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Veterinary Medical Association, Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association, and Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care Society, as well as the American Kennel Club , Afghan Club of America and Fox Terrier Club of Chicago.
