AKC Expert Dr. Mary Burch says....
"Pulling or tugging provides active dogs with an energy burning activity. Tug toys are often made of heavy rope or fabric, or they may be a rope, ball, or toy combined with a handle. There are tethers to which tug toys can be attached so the dog can provide his own exercise. Tug toys are often used as a reward at the end of working activity such as agility or flyball. If you play tug games with your dog, it is important that you are in charge and you can get the dog to release the toy. Intense tugging should not be done with puppies."
